FireWall Rules

A lot of questions around firewall rules and communications between the HDVM Server and their related agents are often addressed to HDS even when they are documented in the respective installation and user-guides however I thought it's worthwhile to spend a page on it.

In order to get the most value out of a management tool is the amount of information it can provide. If an application provides no info itś useless, a waste of time and money not well spend. The same argument goes for storage management tools.

HDVM can collect a lot of information from the hosts and since version 6 of the Hitachi Storage Command Suite a lot of functionality of numerous suite products have been combined. You may not know this as part of HDVM which you purchase there comes also Hitachi Storage Provisioning Manager which is a freebee and extremely handy for provisioning volumes to host. It can even partition and format a host lun for you........BUT.... Yes you need the HDVM agent installed. :-)
